Creating a home away from home
The Spirit Garden started the way most good ideas do- sitting on the couch, staring into space wondering what I was doing with my life.
I knew I needed change. I just didn't know where to start
Somewhere between overthinking and a mild identity crisis, I realized 2 things:
1. I love making things with my hands
2. I have a serious passion for mixology and culinary
That night, I decided to combined spirit (term for alcohol) and garden (due to my obsession with plants) and create The Spirit Garden, an aspiring bar greenhouse, with the idea of a bar being surround by plants.
From March 2024 to March 2025 I grew hundreds of plants, got my LLC, built my website, created my business plan, printed business cards, and started doing craft fairs. All while working full time in the restaurant industry as I have been since I was 18 years old. I have worked every position from host, to bartender to line cook, dishwasher, delivery driver and bar manager.
In May of 2025, I opened The Spirit Garden as a seasonal plant shop boutique in Winslow, Maine- a smaller version of a bigger vison I have for the future
Over time, the vision evolved.
Jewelry became part of the shop; handpicked from the coasts of Maine and Puerto Rico. We also sell jewelry holders and dehydrated fruit drink garnishes. No liquor license yet, that will be obtained at the new location in a few years. During the winter, while the shop was closed, I came back to where it all started; the kitchen.
I began culinary tech classes at 16 and completed 2 years of formal training in high school where I received my first Serve Safe certification. That training led me into professional kitchens where I also worked the FOH and I was able to expand my knowledge of the industry as a whole. Starting in January of 2026, I officially expanded into private chef services, with the goal of becoming a traveling private chef.
The Spirit Garden is growing into more than a shop. It's a brand rooted in craft, hospitality, and building something from scratch, even when you're not entirely sure where its going yet.
